About

Created in 2009 by In extenso – a contemporary art space in Clermont-Ferrand – La belle revue is an annual printed contemporary art magazine, distributed free of charge in art spaces in France, Belgium and Switzerland. It has largely contributed to the cultural influence of the city of Clermont-Ferrand and the vast regions of Centre-France Auvergne Rhône-Alpes in France. It is also published as a website updated monthly.

Composed of exhibition reviews, thematic columns, original artistic contributions, and portraits of artists and local organisations, La belle revue aims to support a broad ecosystem of artists, critics, organisations, institutions, and art spaces in Centre-France Auvergne Rhône-Alpes and beyond. It champions a demanding approach to art criticism while also embracing more experimental forms of writing, affirming a desire for openness, renewal, and dialogue between critical approaches and contemporary literary forms.

Its editorial board, made up of the management of In extenso, the association’s committee, and art workers in the region (artists, curators, critics), collectively determines the editorial guidelines and content of each issue. The board also invites other art workers to contribute to the magazine, fostering a collaborative dynamic attentive to the challenges of local rootedness and the diversity of viewpoints.
